2024 GOURD COMPETITION CATEGORIES

49.  Gourd Carved:  A gourd that is power carved or carved with traditional tools.  Any subject or any finish is  allowed.  May include filigree or fretwork.

 

50.  Gourd Pyrography:  A gourd that is burned and with or without color.  Any subject or any finish is allowed.

 

51.  Gourd Color Techniques/Painted:  Artwork is created on gourd with coloring techniques (acrylic, enamel, oil, colored pencils, watercolors, stains, inks, dyes).

 

52.  Gourd Bowl or Vase:  Any combination of techniques and embellishments allowed.  Can be functional or decorative. May be with or without a lid.​​

53.  Gourd Sculpture or Assemblage:  The joining or combining of one or more gourds (in whole or pieces) to make a three-dimensional sculpture or entry.  The entry should be designed and assembled to be seen from different sides.  The design should be with the gourd predominating.    Clay or wood filler may be used in sculpting and on the gourd surface and should cover no more than 30% of the gourd surface.  Additional techniques may be used to complete the design and embellishments may be added.  Photos of the building process are recommended for judges.

54.  My Way:   Any gourd art item that does not fit in other gourd categories. Any technique allowed. If gourd is not obvious, pictures of the process showing gourd/s should be included.​

Note: Gourd entries will not be eligible to compete against woodcarving entries, for the Best of Show, or Peoples Choice awards.  A separate Best of Gourd ribbon will be awarded.  Judging of gourd entries will be performed by judges supplied by the Gourd Society.
